I was there when Tweedy did this and it was anything but freestyle (though maybe that term’s a lot looser in definition than I am presuming). In fact, Tweedy said he practiced this song quite a bit to get it up to even this ramshackle (and surprisingly moving) version. As he says here “I really overestimated myself…or underestimated the Black Eyed Peas.” And later “Having spent some time with their material…they are evil geniuses.”

Perfect. For anyone who might have missed the 140 character epic farce detailing what Mayor Emmanuel’s rise to office would have been if it knew how, the book will make you smile. I didn’t miss it but I try to invest in smiles at every opportunity. Tweedy’s performance was the cherry on the icing of a proper cake.
